And good Monday morning! I'm so happy to be here for the first of what I hope will be many more posts.
I am a writer. I write mainly American Women's Porn, otherwise known as Romance Novels. I love writing stories where a man and a woman meet and fall in love. I love when things outside of their control keep them from being together. I dislike when the story is full of angst and the characters own histrionics keep them apart. I try hard not to write that particular type of drivel. I've read a lot of it and while occasionally I find a story I enjoy, most of the time, I find it tedious to read.
That said, I am currently working on one angst-driven story. In fact, that playlist on the sidebar is for that particular story.
What else do I write? Well, I have some ideas for a fantasy story. It is about a fairy type world. I also have some ideas for a mermaid world.
I also write blog posts. Sometimes my posts are rants, sometimes it's a list, and occasionally it's more of an essay about something in the news that's bothering me or makes me really happy. I also blog about my personal life and the occasionally odd things that happen to me.
So a little background on me: I am Californian and love it. My father was in the military and my mother a stay at home mom. I love writing because it enables me to be an at home mom for my own daughter.
I met my husband in California. He is incredibly kind and loving, not to mention supportive of me. We have a beautiful daughter. We absolutely adore her. About a year and a half ago, we decided to move from California to the Midwest, which is where my husband was born. Sadly, the move hasn't brought us closer to the family he so missed, it has only emphasized what we've lost. Both of us lost both parents, my husband has lost all of his grandparents and I have one grandmother still living. I do have a sister and brother-in-law and they have three kids. My husband has no siblings.
Okay, that's enough about that. I want this blog to be many things. I want it to be a place where we can talk about writing. Our ideas, our struggles, our insane research, the place to send up a desperate plea for help. I also want to occasionally explain different points of my process and I'd love to read both your thoughts on my process and how you write. I love questions and I try to answer them as soon as I receive them though once in a while I need to think about something before I respond.
Two details about this blog and the reasons I don't plan to change them even though I know they can be annoying. First, I have enabled comment moderation. I want to know what you have said, not so I can edit it but so if there is personal information, or you want to get in touch with me in private you may without the whole world knowing what you've said. I also am trying to keep profanity out of my blog, so any swear words will be edited. Second, I have the really annoying word capture thing as a requirement to post. I know a lot of people hate that but I have a reason for using it and it has nothing to do with preventing spam and automatic responses. Ready for this? It's actually a really cool thing and I believe if more people knew they wouldn't object to using it. I read in an article about that annoying word capture program. When they began scanning books into computers they soon discovered they had a bunch of words that for one reason or another the computer couldn't read. Sometimes the word was crooked, sometimes it was smudged, sometimes it was an archaic word with which the computer was unfamiliar. I'm not talking about a couple of hundred words, I'm talking about millions. Around this same time, sniping programs, those really irritating programs that let someone put an automatic bid $.25 higher than your final bid on that toy you desperately want on eBay in the last second of the auction, as well as automated "robot" responses were driving companies insane. So a simple program requiring the user to type in a word in order to prove it was a person making the request, asking for assistance, or whatever, was written. And what words do they use? You guessed it, those words that didn't scan and the computer couldn't process. So when you comment on my blog, and you are growling at me for making you spend the extra couple of minutes with the word capture thing, remember I'm not doing it to irritate you. You are actually helping preserve written works. And being a writer, I can't think of anything better, than preserving words.
